Sigrids Stue arbejder generelt på egne projekter og tiltag, men samarbejder også gerne med lokale institutioner og byder ind med kunstfaglig sparring, når det giver mening for os og for området.
I 2021 indgik vi således i et et unik og tværgående samarbejde omkring udsmykningen af Gellerups nye Børne- og Sundhedshus ved Globus1 på Gudrunsvej, hvor vi sammen med repræsentanter fra Sundhed Vest, lokale daginstitutioner, Aarhus Kommune/Børn og Unge og Sundhed og Omsorg, arkitekfirmaet Kjaer og Richter samt Århus Billedkunstudvalg skulle vælge retning for og kunstner til kunstneriske udsmykningsopgave, som skulle udføres i forbindelse med det nye byggeri.
Sammen med Aarhus Billedkunstudvalg foreslog vi kunstner Camilla Nørgård. Sigrids Stue har samarbejdet med Camilla siden slutningen af 2019, hvor hun blev inviteret ind i vores arbejde i forbindelse med Sigrids UdeStues re-lokering i Gellerup i 2020. Camilla har et slogan for sit arbejde – DONT LOOK FORWARD LOOK AROUND – som vi tænkte var en fin tilgang at arbejde med netop i Gellerup, hvor vi oplever en accelerende byudvikling. Lokal identitet, kultur og historie er ikke blot under pres, men opleves også bevidst overset i en ny identitet og fortælling, som er ved at blive etableret i Gellerup. Bygninger/boliger rives ned og derved sletter man også mange menneskers hverdag og minder.
Sigrids Stue har nu et fint og imødekommende dige ved UdeStuen – et dige der er bygget op bl.a. af sten og genbrugsmaterialer fra området og beplantet med urter til fri afbenyttelse. (link til UdeStuen; + film: Camilla Nørgård – Sten, sti, dige)
I forlængelse af dette projekt fortsatte vi således med glæde og god energi samarbejdet med Camilla Nørgård omkring den stedsspecifikke værk til Børne- og sundhedshuset. Det blev indledt i slutningen af 2020 og værket stod færdig til videre brug i september 2022.
Omsamling Gellerup
Brugere og besøgende til Børne- og sundhedshuset møder et udendørs trappelandskab og en indendørs væg-stor assemblage. Værket er bygget op af indsamlede og bearbejdede materialer fra forskellige steder i Gellerup og Toveshøj. Der er planter fra området og sten fra nedrivninger og nybyggerier. Inventar og fragmenter fra nu nedrevne eller lukkede institutioner er genbrugt og anvendt i assemblagen. Bl.a. indgår døre, stole og skabe fra Tovshøjskolen, Nordgårdhallen, den tidligere børneinstitution Mælkevejen m.fl..
Glasskabe, der indgår i værket, er fyldt med fundne genstande fra området eller overladt til Børne- og Sundhedshuset, som fremover selv vil indsamle genstande og fremvise projekter i heri. Gennem udsmykningens forskellige genstande fra området, forbindes fragmenter af den fælles historie i Gellerup og Toveshøj med hverdagslivet i huset. Udsmykningen muliggør således, at Børne- og Sundhedshusets brugere får en kunstnerisk oplevelse og kan gense eller få et kig ind i årtiers liv i Gellerup – såvel byggerier som nedrivninger.

Udgangspunktet for projektet er at forbinde inde og ude, lokalhistorie og dagligdag, som den udfoldes i børnehaven, vuggestuen og Folkesundhed Vest, hvor man forener motion, frisk luft, sundhed og bevidsthed om nærmiljø. Vandringer og opmærksomhed på området er en del af Camilla Nørgårds praksis. Derfor er værket blevet til over to år, hvor det er vokset frem gennem talrige gåture, materialeindsamlinger, lokal produktion, samtaler, fremvisninger m.m.
Udsmykningen er realiseret på opdrag fra Aarhus Kommune og Aarhus Billedkunstråd og i samarbejde med kunstplatformen Sigrids Stue i Gellerup. Projektet er gennem samarbejdet med Sigrids Stue støttet af Statens Kunstfond og af et generøst særlegat fra Kirsten og Gunnar Fonden til udførsel af trappelandskabet.

Sigrids Stue generally works on its own projects and initiatives, but also enjoys collaborating with local institutions and offering artistic sparring when it makes sense for us and for the area.
In 2021, we entered into a unique and cross-disciplinary collaboration on the decoration of Gellerup’s new Children’s and Health Center at Globus1 on Gudrunsvej, where we worked together with representatives from Sundhed Vest, local daycare centers, Aarhus Municipality/Children and Youth and Health and Care, the architectural firm Kjaer og Richter, and the Aarhus Visual Arts Committee, we were tasked with choosing the direction and artist for the artistic decoration project to be carried out in connection with the new construction.
Together with Aarhus Visual Arts Committee, we proposed artist Camilla Nørgård. Sigrids Stue has been collaborating with Camilla since late 2019, when she was invited to join our work in connection with Sigrids UdeStue’s relocation to Gellerup in 2020. Camilla has a slogan for her work – DONT LOOK FORWARD LOOK AROUND – which we thought was a great approach to work with in Gellerup, where we are experiencing accelerating urban development. Local identity, culture, and history are not only under pressure but are also being deliberately overlooked in a new identity and narrative that is being established in Gellerup. Buildings/homes are being demolished, thereby erasing many people’s everyday lives and memories.
Sigrids Stue now has a beautiful and welcoming embankment at UdeStuen – an embankment built from stones and recycled materials from the area and planted with herbs for free use. (link to UdeStuen; + film: Camilla Nørgård – Stones, Path, Embankment)
Following on from this project, we were delighted to continue our collaboration with Camilla Nørgård on the site-specific work for the Children’s and Health Center. It was initiated at the end of 2020 and the work was completed for further use in September 2022.
Users and visitors to the Children and Health Center encounter an outdoor staircase landscape and an indoor wall-sized assemblage. The work is constructed from collected and processed materials from various locations in Gellerup and Toveshøj. There are plants from the area and stones from demolitions and new buildings. Furniture and fragments from now demolished or closed institutions have been recycled and used in the assemblage. These include doors, chairs, and cabinets from Tovshøj School, Nordgårdhallen, the former Mælkevejen children’s institution, and others.
Glass cabinets included in the work are filled with objects found in the area or donated to the Children and Health Center, which will collect objects and display projects in them in the future. Through the various objects from the area featured in the decoration, fragments of the shared history of Gellerup and Toveshøj are connected to everyday life in the house. The decoration thus enables the users of the Children and Health Center to have an artistic experience and to revisit or get a glimpse into decades of life in Gellerup – both construction and demolition.

The starting point for the project is to connect indoors and outdoors, local history and everyday life, as it unfolds in the kindergarten, nursery, and Folkesundhed Vest, where exercise, fresh air, health, and awareness of the local environment are combined. Walks and awareness of the area are part of Camilla Nørgård’s practice. That is why the work has been created over two years, growing through numerous walks, material collections, local production, conversations, presentations, etc.
The decoration was commissioned by Aarhus Municipality and Aarhus Visual Arts Council and created in collaboration with the art platform Sigrids Stue in Gellerup. Through the collaboration with Sigrids Stue, the project is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation and a generous special grant from the Kirsten and Gunnar Foundation for the execution of the staircase landscape.
